THE reason to visit GABS! - We choose Mokolodi after seeing there wasn't a huge selection of affordable accommodation in Gabs. We were so happy we did!! Mokolodi and its hosts, Hendrik and Henk, will forever be one of our favourite memories from Botswana. Hendrik and Henk went out of the way to help organise and suggest tips for our driving trip around Botswana.

Beautiful place to stay! - I rented a bungalow for a few nights, the property is located nicely for folks without transportation - you can walk to the bus stop to get into town and back. The small bungalows are very cute and the shared bathrooms and showers are well maintained. The staff were very nice and helpful, I was sick while there and they helped me with transportation to a pharmacy so I could get some antibiotics. Plus free coffee and tea - it was enough in the evenings to just sit on the porch of my bungalow and drink rooibos and watch the animals walk around. Would definitely recommend it for a visit!

Mokolodi backpackers is definitely a backpackers worth visiting - I was impressed initially with the email correspondence, even more so by the aesthetic and decor. What took it over the top was the staff. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. Another big plus were the animals - they are all lovely, enjoy some attention but do not bother you. If you are in/around Gaborone - there should be no hesitation in your decision as to where to stay.

Beautiful place, excellent staff! - From the moment we contacted Mokolodi, this business went above and beyond to accommodate us. We were picked up from the airport by their friendly driver, then upon arrival, surprised as to how pretty and peaceful the Backpackers is! Its beautifully kept gardens, and the welcoming of a very endearing menagerie, gives the place such a homely, safe feel. The facilities are great - kept meticulously clean by a lovely team of very friendly, polite staff. There is always someone around to ask for help, recommend places to go etc. The free wifi connection was consistently strong - yet another added bonus!!

Mokolodi backpackers - what a place. - I have stayed at a lot of backpackers in my day - Mokolodi is right up there with the best of them. The meticulous attention to detail, wonderful decor, super friendly staff and backpacker pets made an excellent stay. They have a number of different accommodations to choose from, I stayed in a dorm room, which has two set of single bunk beds. It was ideally suited for my needs, very well kept and really neat. This was the same throughout the entire establishment. If you are in the general area of Gaborone - this is the place to stay.

Friendly staff, spotless facilities, great vibe. Can't fault Mokolodi, a fantastic way to meet international people and the resident animals are wonderful and completely undisruptive.

Perfect for overnight stopover en route from Zim to SA We stayed here after a long drive from Harare arriving after 10pm but the night guard was expecting us and showed us straight to the rondavel we had booked. It was the most up market room available on the site as it has its own kitchenette and bathroom in a very large open space with one double and one single bed.A mattress had also been put down for our other child but there was still plenty of space. The room was very neat and clean and perfect to have a good sleep before setting off early the next day. The rest of the accommodation was more geared towards the younger travelling crowd as you would expect from the name with smaller chalets and space for tents dotted around the site along with the shared kitchen and toilets. It all seemed very well organised and relaxing and lots of animals around for company for anyone travelling on their own. The staff were all friendly and helpful. I had found the place on Google Street View in advance as with no sign on the gate it is a bit hard to locate the first time.

I stayed in their spacious, clean and comfortable rondaval. The grounds were lovely, full of colourful flora and fauna, with quirky resident wildlife. A peacock that never stopped posing, ducks sharing the swimming pool with me, a pair of massive dogs that were as soft as putty, cats that appeared aloof, and Newyear, the cuddly and lazy Vietnamese potbellied pig. A place where you can relax in the knowledge that the courteous and helpful staff will ensure your stay is trouble-free. The ambience was warm and welcoming. I loved it.

Incredibly peaceful hostel! A group of friends and I stayed here for a two week period and thoroughly enjoyed it! After traveling to numerous hostels this one took us by surprise at how quiet and peaceful it was. (We camped outside!) It reminded us more of a scenic lodge then a party hostel. The other guests for the most part were people looking for a quiet stay. The staff was incredibly friendly and more than accommodating. They had two dogs, a cat, kitten, pot belly pig and a peacock to add to the fun! Felt like a home away from home.

Very impressed! I stayed at Mokolodi Backpackers with some friends for approximately two weeks. I had been traveling for almost a year and had stayed at many hostels, but this was by far one of the best. The accommodations were great (we tented and still had access to the kitchen, bathroom, laundry, wifi, etc.), and there is a bus stop nearby for convenient transport into town. Mokolodi is very clean, well kept, has a peaceful feel, and attracts a nice crowd of people to be around. I was most impressed, however, by the staff. Each person who works there makes a great effort to give you the best stay possible, and the owner is friendly and goes out of his way to spend time with his guests-- which was awesome! All in all, it was an incredible place that I would definitely recommend

Spent 18 days backpacking around Botswana with a school group and spending our last 2 nights here was heaven! Between the group of 11 we slept in the wooden hut, the executive suite and the private chalets. I stayed in the chalet and it was lovely. Well-equipped and nicely decorated. The bathrooms and kitchen again are well equipped and nicely organised making you feel at home. The pool is great to sit around with a beer whilst watching the animals- very relaxing! Dotted around are braais (BBQs) and fire pits which come in handy and are open to use. Our hosts were so kind and were very welcoming. One night they hosted a BBQ for us which was lovely. Additionally the animals that live there are a lovely addition. The pig is gorgeous and made my morning waking up to! If I'm ever in the area again I will definitely stop by!

Best most friendly, homely backpackers! Henrik and his team looked after us so well during our stay. Their attention to detail and set up of the place was very thoughtful and beyond the care you would normally expect. The place is clean and well cared for, the fires at night during the winter are a great addition for cold winter nights. The price for camping is very reasonable AND there is wifi which is mostly very reliable, always a winner! Water is showers is lovely and hot. The animals just add to the homely fell - I'd happily go back and stay!
